Percentage calculator – find a percent, increase or change

Six percentage questions in one place: a percent of a number, one number as a percent of another, change, increase, decrease and the whole from a part.

    How to use it

    1. Choose the question you want to answer.
    2. Type the two numbers.
    3. Read the answer and the short sentence that explains it.

    Questions

How do I find a percentage increase?

Choose "Percentage change", type the old number and the new number. The result is the difference divided by the old number, times 100.

How do I add 24% VAT to a price?

Choose "Increase a number by X%", type the price and 24. For the opposite, use the VAT calculator.

Why is a 50% increase followed by a 50% decrease not the same number?

The second percentage is taken from a bigger number, so you end up lower than you started. 100 → 150 → 75.
